The concept of citizenship in liberal democracy and its limits

Published 2021-05-21

Abstract

From the theory of social representations, the author highlights the central core of the political theory of liberal democracy, referring to the concept of monocultural citizenship that it conveys. It reflects on its limits in the face of the emergence of ethnic particularisms, and conceives as a dilemma the need to develop consistent and effective political strategies with the purpose of building a democracy and multicultural citizenship in Latin America.
