Social representations and epistemological beliefs. Convergent Concepts in Social Research

Abstract

The article proposes a reflection on the methodological strategies in the social studies of art. Based on the importance of transdisciplinarity to achieve a view that enhances the social analysis of artistic phenomena, we propose to rethink the methodological approaches that have traditionally been used to study art, in order to expand the gaze. Two methodological strategies designed to carry out studies related to the artistic world from the social sciences are analyzed. In addition, progress is being made in the elaboration of a methodological proposal where the historicization and concrete location of the objects, the disciplinary dialogue, the reflective look of the researcher on their practice and academic institutions, and the construction of pertinent knowledge for the world is essential.
