Binary thinking : semantic, theoretical and empirical aspects .

Published 2009-05-10

Abstract

When we ask ourselves about the conditions of the application of the binary schemas, it is necessary to consider three different levels. On the one hand, that of the constitutive semantic principles of the meaning considered in itself, from which instruments of semantic description can be derived. On the other hand, that of binarizations constructed for theorizing and conceptualizing purposes. And finally, that of the more or less binarized notions or realities that are manifested in everyday life. Although it is true that relationships can be established between these levels, each one of them contains its own specificities, demands and potentialities.
