Canadian multiculturalism and Colombian art in Montreal: dismantling national stereotypes with Fritta Caro

he propaganda of Canadian immigration institutions is based on the politics of multiculturalism to project the stereotype of Canada as a country in which diverse cultures coexist without conflict, as well as that of a magnanimous international actor. In this way it seeks to attract qualified labor to promote the country's competitiveness in a globalized market without compromising national security. In the present work, this stereotyped image is contrasted with the discourse that emerges from the testimonies of Helena Martín Franco, a Colombian visual artist established in the city of Montreal, and her character Fritta Caro. It is based on the hypothesis according to which their works and testimonies offer elements of information incompatible with those of Canadian immigration propaganda
