Reconstruction of a tourist territory through a cultural bricolage

Veröffentlicht 2015-08-02

Abstract

Based on the ethnography of the Huatulco tourist center, the article analyzes the way in which groups of migrants arriving from very different places have managed to build new territories - as "an integrated experience of space" (Haesbaert) - and, consequently, new collective identities. It is about Colonia 20 de Noviembre, also known as El Crucero, where hundreds of families have converged that have settled in lots assigned by Fonatur (National Tourism Fund), literally building a new territoriality in the rigorous sense that it confers on this term cultural geography. The article analyzes the political and symbolic aspects that allowed this appropriation of a new space by migrants dedicated to tourist services
